Whilst visiting my relatives in Croatia I was sorting out the family history on my Grandpa’s side for my mom. Mom sent me a photo of one of my Grandpa’s brothers so I could have him positively identified. I ended up getting information I did not expect about my great uncle.
I was told that the photo was of Ivo and that he was killed in WWII. However, what I did not expect to be told was that no one knows where or exactly when he died during the war as his body was never recovered. He was declared dead last year. My grandpa never talked about his family so I never even knew he had a brother who went to war and never came home.
This Remembrance Day the tomb of the unknown soldier has new meaning.
